Curriculum Overview

Educational Opportunities for All Ages and Academic Levels

St. Thomas of Villanova School takes great pride in its emphasis on early childhood education. Recognizing that children begin learning from birth, our early childhood program provides an academic foundation for lifelong learning. We provide a Catholic education for all.

Students develop confidence and gain life skills in an environment of teamwork, decision making, critical thinking and integration of all academic subjects. These efforts are supported by a strong infrastructure of technology, the arts, social studies and language arts. The preschool and kindergarten programs focus on social and academic skills in an effort to develop enthusiastic learners. The junior high faculty provide a classroom format that prepares students to move into any high school setting.

Beginning your child’s education at St. Thomas of Villanova means:

  • Lifelong Friendships
  • Continuity of Education
  • No Stressful Transitions
  • Strong Parent-Teacher-Child Relationships
  • Solid Foundation of Faith

With an emphasis on small classes and well-trained faculty, we challenge each student to develop his or her own capabilities and passion in the pursuit of learning. With a multi-modal approach to teaching and learning, students maximize their strengths from preschool to junior high school. While STV School encourages teamwork and cooperation, we acknowledge and welcome individual growth and independent thinking. From Preschool to Eighth grade, an education from STV School guarantees lifelong friendships, continuity of education, no stressful transitions and strong parent and teacher relationships.

STV students are offered many opportunities throughout the day to develop the whole child.

All students from Kindergarten through Eight grade attend Spanish class, Library class, Technology and Music class weekly; and lastly, Physical Education three times a week. Also, all students participate in art weekly and have the opportunity to participate in Art Clubs.

Our Curriculum Standards

The Archdiocese of Chicago Curriculum Benchmarks in English, reading, math and science are aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards, Common Core State Standards, ACT’s College Readiness Standards, and the Next Generation Science Standards. The religion standards are designed to promote our Catholic identity and faith in the lives of our students with an emphasis on our creed, sacraments, Christian living, scriptures, liturgy, prayer and history of the Catholic Church, parish life and vocations. The Archdiocese of Chicago Curriculum Benchmarks are rigorous standards used by teachers in our schools to align curriculum, instruction and assessments to prepare students with the skills to be successful for their next level of work.
